Steamed Dumpling Ingredients

For the test:

Cooking steamed dumplings with cherries:

Step 1: Cooking the dough for dumplings.

The dough is the basis of any dumplings, and it depends on it how they turn out. The proposed recipe always leads to the desired result, but does not require special efforts. We take a clean bowl and mix the following products in it - kefir, vegetable oil, salt and sugar, also break the egg with a knife and pour the flour evenly. Mix the dough with a spoon to carefully distribute the ingredients. Then pour a little flour (2 tablespoons) into the plate, which will be needed to knead the dough, and add soda to it. The mixture needs to be mixed - due to the fact that soda is not added to the dough, dumplings will rise better. Pour the flour with soda on the table, and begin to rub it into the dough, kneading a uniform lump, not sticky to the hands. Now the dough needs to cool, so send it to the refrigerator for half an hour and get down to stuffing.

Step 2: Prepare the berries for the filling.

As a filling, I chose cherries, although other options are also suitable - strawberries, currants and even bananas. This is for berries. First, the berries need to be washed and dried with a paper towel. Cherry - great for filling, but it has one feature - a stone. We will not put cherries with seeds in the filling - this is harmful and dangerous, you can swallow or damage your teeth. Therefore, you have to remove the bones. It will be convenient to do this using a special device for removing seeds from cherries and olives, in the old Soviet garlic squeezers such an opportunity is provided. If you don’t have such tools, then you will have to use a regular hairpin. You can, of course, just cut each cherry with a knife and pull out a bone, but this is less convenient. You can remove the bone with the help of a hairpin as follows - the ends of the hairpin are clamped by hand and we act as a “loop”. We press on that part of the cherry where the stalk was and gently pry the bone. So do with all the berries. It is better to carry out this procedure immediately before we start the dumplings so that the cherry does not have time to let the juice go.

Step 3: Steam the dumplings with cherries.

We take the dough out of the refrigerator and put it on the table, sprinkled with flour. You can first roll out the dough with a thin layer and use a glass to stick a lot of small cakes, or you can pinch small pieces from the dough and knead them by hand. The advantage of the first method is that the dumplings will be even and uniform in shape. The remaining dough can be blinded and rolled out again. Now you should put on the stove a pan filled with water, with gauze fixed on top. The easiest way to fix it with a rubber band. The gauze should be stretched so as to support the weight of the dumplings and not sag. Water must be brought to a boil. To take less time, add a little salt to it, and cover the pan with a lid. We make dumplings in the usual way - in the center of the cake we put about 2 cherries and one teaspoon of sugar, then we reduce the edges of the dumpling and pinch them. Dumplings are laid on cheesecloth, and on top we cover them with a lid. Cook the dumplings for 7 minutes, after which we spread them with a slotted spoon in a plate and grease with butter.

Step 4: Serve the cooked steamed dumplings with cherries.

Serve the dumplings with hot, generously oiled butter. Sour cream is also excellent. When cutting a dumpling, a delicious warm sweet and sour cherry juice flows out, which cannot leave anyone indifferent who tries this wonderful dish of Ukrainian cuisine. Try steaming the dumplings with a different filling! Enjoy your meal!

Recipe Tips:

- - The cooled dumplings are already not so tasty, so pre-calculate how much you need to cook. It is not worthwhile to heat the dumplings in the microwave; it is better to fry in a pan with a small amount of oil.

- - You can cook steamed dumplings in a double boiler, slow cooker or mantle cooker, but they turn out not so easy - the dough becomes stiff and not so magnificent. But they need to be cooked for about 4 minutes.

- - Other options for fillings for steamed dumplings - cottage cheese, potatoes, potatoes with mushrooms, cabbage, cabbage with egg, berries or fruits.

- - You can use both fresh and frozen berries. Before cooking, they must be thawed.

- - To make the dough for dumplings more airy, and they themselves rise better, you need to use only fresh sifted flour.

- - Instead of kefir, you can use yogurt. A dough can be prepared yeast.
